Now That The Party's Over
Patrick Cannell © 2012
Now that the party's over,
We're swaying in a daze.
It's time to take your partners
And leave the fun and games.
There in a distant corner
A shady figure lies
They didn't even notice
The blackness in his eyes.
Cold evening and a lonely walk back home.
Your sadness is your own.
Now that the smoke is clearing,
I see a stranger's face.
It's frozen on the ceiling
And staring into space.
Cold evening and a lonely walk back home.
Your sadness is your own.
The lonely man with a hangover.
As he kicks himself the next day,
He gets by, I don't know how,
I don't know why.
Did anybody notice
The shattering of glass?
A scattering of tinsel,
The carnival goes past.
Now take your hats and lovers
And make your way downstairs.
The star attraction's sleeping
Between two upturned chairs.
